The EU Space Programme is significantly contributing to the aviation sector's transition toward sustainability through the use of Copernicus and Galileo satellite data. These systems allow for more precise navigation and optimized flight paths, which help airlines reduce fuel consumption and decrease CO2 emissions. In addition to environmental goals, the program improves safety by providing pilots with real-time, high-resolution weather data and terrain information. This integration of space technology is a cornerstone of the EU’s efforts to modernize air traffic management under the Green Deal. Ongoing research will continue to expand these tools to support new forms of transport, such as electric drones and air taxis.

EU satellite data is being used to make air travel more fuel-efficient and safer.
