ECDC: First EU Case of Avian Flu A(H9N2)

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) reported the first human case of avian influenza A(H9N2) infection imported into the EU. The case was detected in a traveler returning from a non-European country where the virus is present in birds. The infected individual is from the Lombardy region of Italy. The ECDC is monitoring the situation and providing guidance to member states on appropriate public health measures.
