The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has extended its coordinated supervision to include Eurodac, the EU's large-scale database for asylum applicants' fingerprints. This move ensures that the processing of sensitive personal data within the asylum system is subject to harmonised data protection oversight across all member states. The decision is particularly timely with the implementation of the new Migration Pact, which expands Eurodac's scope. This coordinated oversight aims to protect the fundamental rights of individuals whose data is stored in the system.

Stricter, coordinated data protection oversight will apply to the EU's massive asylum database.
