EU Proposes Stronger Protection for Bank Deposits
The European Banking Authority (EBA) has launched a public consultation on new rules to enhance the protection of bank deposits across the EU. The proposed measures aim to further harmonise and strengthen Deposit Guarantee Schemes (DGS), which insure deposits up to €100,000 in case of a bank failure. Key areas of focus include improving the speed of payouts and ensuring DGS have adequate funding to handle a crisis. The consultation invites feedback from citizens and stakeholders before the EBA finalises the new standards.
