EESC Supports Updated Tobacco Taxation Rules
The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) has officially backed a proposal to revise the Tobacco Taxation Directive. The revision aims to modernize the EU's tax framework to better reflect current public health goals and the rise of new products like e-cigarettes. By increasing and harmonizing taxes on tobacco products across the bloc, the EU hopes to reduce consumption rates and prevent youth smoking initiation. The proposal will now be considered by the European Commission and Member States as part of the Europe's Beating Cancer Plan.
