Sakharov Prize 2023 Awarded to Jina Mahsa Amini
The European Parliament has awarded the 2023 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to Jina Mahsa Amini and the Iranian women protesters. The prize recognizes their fight for freedom and human rights in Iran. Amini died in Iranian police custody in September 2022 after being arrested for allegedly violating the country's strict dress code. The award ceremony will be held in Strasbourg on December 12, 2023.
