Eurojust: Focus on Ukrainian Children Transfer
Eurojust extends Ukraine investigation, focusing on illegal transfer of children.
The EU's response to the war in Ukraine is multifaceted, focusing on both immediate support and long-term accountability. Currently, the European Investment Bank (EIB) Group deployed a record €1.5 billion in 2025 for Ukraine, addressing critical needs like repairing energy grids and transport infrastructure, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises. Concurrently, Europol successfully dismantled a money laundering scheme exploiting vulnerable Ukrainian refugees in Spain, leading to 12 arrests and protecting displaced persons from organised crime. This direct action provides crucial financial stability and essential protection for citizens and businesses impacted by the conflict.
The bloc is also intensifying efforts to ensure justice for war crimes. The Joint Investigation Team (JIT), coordinated by Eurojust, has extended its mandate, now specifically focusing on the illegal transfer of Ukrainian children. This long-term commitment involves authorities from seven EU member states and Ukraine, gathering evidence and preparing for prosecutions of war crimes and crimes against humanity. For citizens, this means a concerted effort to hold perpetrators accountable and protect the most vulnerable, reinforcing international law and human rights.
Looking ahead, the EU's unwavering support, reaffirmed by G7 leaders, indicates a sustained commitment to Ukraine's recovery and security. The continued financial aid and the robust legal framework established through Eurojust and the JIT signal a determined trajectory towards rebuilding Ukraine while pursuing justice. This ensures that the EU's response remains comprehensive, addressing both the immediate humanitarian and economic needs and the long-term imperative of accountability for international crimes.
