The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) have published a joint assessment regarding a widespread recall of infant formula. The recall followed the detection of cereulide, a bacterial toxin that can cause significant food poisoning in infants. While cases were reported in seven European countries, authorities state the risk is now declining as affected products have been largely removed from the market. Health officials are advising parents to remain vigilant and check batch numbers against national safety recalls.
