Sakharov Prize 2023 Honours Iranian Women

The European Parliament has awarded the 2023 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to Jina Mahsa Amini and the women of Iran's protest movement. The prize recognizes their fight for human rights and freedom following Amini's death in custody. The Sakharov Prize is awarded annually to honor individuals and groups who have dedicated their lives to the defense of human rights and fundamental freedoms. The award ceremony will take place in Strasbourg on 13 December.
