EDPB Guidelines on Scientific Research Data Processing
The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has issued Guidelines 1/2026 on the processing of personal data for scientific research purposes. These guidelines aim to provide clarity on how data protection rules apply to scientific research, an objective explicitly supported by EU treaties. The EDPB also accelerated the finalization of anonymization guidelines and approved the first European data protection seal for data transfers.
