EU Sets New Hepatitis Screening Rules for Donations
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has released updated technical guidelines for screening blood, tissue, and cell donations. The new unified rules aim to prevent the transmission of hepatitis B (HBV) and C (HCV) viruses across Europe. By standardising testing procedures, the ECDC seeks to ensure a high level of safety for all substances of human origin used in medical treatments like transfusions and transplants. Member States are expected to implement these guidelines to strengthen public health protection.
Stricter, harmonised safety checks for all blood, tissue, and cell donations across the EU.
