EIB Funds Greek Defence Sector in First-Ever Bank Partnership

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed its first financing deal with a commercial bank to bolster a country's security and defence industry. The EIB will provide an initial €50 million to Greece's CrediaBank to support investments by Greek companies, particularly SMEs, in the defence and security sector. This operation is a landmark moment for the EIB's Strategic European Security Initiative (SESI), signalling a major policy shift for the EU's lending arm. The funding is intended to strengthen Europe's defence capabilities and technological sovereignty.

The EU's investment bank is now directly funding national defence industries, starting in Greece.
