ECB Tests Top Banks Against Geopolitical Shocks
The European Central Bank has published the results of its 2026 geopolitical risk stress test for the 111 largest banks in the euro area. The exercise simulated a severe scenario involving a global resurgence of geopolitical tensions, high inflation, and a deep recession. While the results show that the banking sector is generally resilient, they also highlight vulnerabilities in certain business models and a need to improve risk management. The ECB will use these findings in its supervisory dialogue with individual banks to ensure they are prepared for future crises.
EU's top banks are largely resilient to geopolitical shocks, but the ECB has identified areas for improvement.
